Thank you to all the parents who came to support and help at the Cross Country competition in Cabra on Wednesday last week. It was a fantastic day and all the children did an amazing job in representing Shellybanks ETNS. We were so impressed with all the results in each of the races. We had three children bring home trophies, so we would like to say a big congratulations to Joshua in First Class who came 6th in his race, Mia in Second Class who came 2nd in her race and Grace in Third Class who came 6th in her race. Well done guys and well done to all the children who competed.

Two teams of pupils took part in a Ficheall Chess Tournament at Wicklow ETNS last Tuesday. It was a great day for the children and even better when we won! One of our teams won a very decisive First Place victory and our average score over our two teams ensured an Overall First Place for Shellybanks as a school too! Well done!

FAB Friday- Shop Save Make a Difference
A personal safety education programme called Stay Safe will be taught in each of the classes over the next few weeks. The Stay Safe programme is part of the Social, Personal and Health Education curriculum which all primary schools are required to implement. Teachers will be sending an email to explain more about the programme. Your child may bring home worksheets which will inform you on the topics being covered in class and how you can reinforce the messages. Please see the links for further information.

In January, Senior Infants learned all about the Restaurant. We had two parent volunteers set up a mock restaurant for the children whereby they learned about the jobs of wait staff and chefs. Another week one of our If there are any parents/relatives who would like to get involved in classroom life, please email grandparents and uncles demonstrated how to bake bread. The classes thoroughly enjoyed both activities and we would like to say a massive thank you to our volunteers for giving up their time to enrich the childrens’ learning experience.
Safer Internet Day falls on February 11th this year. You may have seen or heard ads for Webwise on TV and radio. Webwise is a website for teachers and parents which has some great advice for keeping children safe online, including explainers for several new and popular apps. Be advised that some of the information is for parents of secondary school students and therefore may appear a little “advanced”, but there are also plenty of resources for parents of primary school children.
